a small history of thingummys
Liverpool
Susan and Alan met in 1957 at Liverpool Art College. There are many stories along the route to 1966 when they opened thingummys in Bold Place, Liverpool opposite St Luke’s - better known as The Bombed Out Church. Bold Street itself was beyond their means. Mum kept her teaching job to help ends meet.

Chester
In 1967 Susan, Alan and Mr Green moved to set up thingummys in Chester after it was suggested they try opening there. They opened on Watergate Row next to The Art Shop and at one point were running thingummys and thingummytogs.
They sold clothes by Vukko, Marimekko and Mary Quant, furniture including Magistretti, Alvar Alto and Kartell, and homeware from Scandinavia. The pieces we still have as a family are used everyday by us all.
